Mount Pumori, first ascended in 1964 by a German Swiss expedition team, Named by George Leigh Mallory, "Pumori" apparently means "the unmarried girl" in the Sherpa language.  Used as a training summit for the teams involved in the ascent of Everest, this mountain is now proposed as a summit to be climbed with a guide.

Pumori Expedition is one of the premier 7,000M peaks in the Everest region of Nepal. It is ideal for those looking to go on to attempt 8000m peaks, but is a fantastic climb in its own right. The route follows the south-east buttress before traversing to the East Ridge for the remainder of the ascent. Pumori Expedition requires a reasonable technical climb on ice and snow. The standard route for the climbing is South East Ridge before it traverses to the East Ridge for the rest of the ascent. Requiring excellent physical strength, Pumori offers sections of wild exposure, views of Lhotse and Everest, with technical difficulty worthy of any Himalayan climber. Pumori is a serious expedition peak intended only for qualified climbers. The finest season to explore this stunning peak is September to November and March to May.
