Island Peak or Imja Peak is a technically straightforward ridge, popular for both adventure trekkers and novice climbers to take on challenging glacier climb above 6000m in the heart of the Everest Himalayas. Island Peak Climbing is physically challenging but not technically difficult climb, involving adventurous grade scramble up a rock gully and an easy rock ridge, to a glacier. Above the glacier, a steep snow headwall leads to the summit ridge, which continues, in an incredibly exposed position, to the summit named Imja Peak among locals. A physically fit & acclimatized person is well qualified and welcome to join the team to make an ascent of Island peak Summit, no requisite of previous knowledge of snow and ice climbing. Adventure Connexion would be delighted to put you in touch with veteran trekkers to share their experiences.
In the best interest of proper acclimatization, success and team compatibility and excellent physical condition, Adventure Connexion offers wonderful adventure treks through the glorious Khumbu region prior to climbing Island Peak. In the homeland of Mount Everest, at 8,848m and the amicable Sherpas pride on the most astonishing high mountain scenery, awe-inspiring sights and rewards on earth. Undoubtly this challenging adventure treks through the remote high mountains pass through off beaten paths, yak trails throughout and welcome teahouses and mountain lodges. We lodge in Sherpa villages, many of them remote, giving us a rare look into both traditional and monastic communities. Our lodging is usually in tea houses. We access these villages through our long time Sherpa friends with the belief that a sharing of cultures is paramount in our understanding of the world. While the environs are often primitive by western standards, they are balanced by the warmth and tremendous support of the Sherpa people. En route to Island peak, the sheer thrill and sense of achievement experienced on putting footsteps at Gokyo Peak (5360m), reaching Everest Base Camp and exceptional viewpoint of Kala Pattar is hard to explain. Our mountain experts and Sherpa Guides will provide a short orientation and demonstration on ice climbing at base camp before heading off for Island Peak summit. On climbing days especially for 2 days, we utilize tent camps. While climbing team members will spend 2-3 days walking in the stunning valleys around Island Peak and make the summit attempt of Island Peak. After the climb we descend to the main Everest trail with its welcome teahouses.

Island Peak Ascent - Many mountaineers prefer to hike upto High Camp at 5,600 m and stay overnight to reduce the amount of effort and time needed for summit day. However, we ignore this idea due to crisis of adequate water supply and concerns about sleeping at a higher altitude may dictate starting from base camp. Our Adventure Connexion team start our climbing early morning between 2-3 am from base camp at 5,087 m or Pareshaya Gyab. Base camp to high camp is basically a hike but just above high camp, some rocky steps require moderate scrambling and up through a broad open gully. The route then follows a ridge line, which leads to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier and proceeds up to a steep snow and ice slope. From here, fixed ropes are setup for the strenuous ascent of nearly 100 m to the Island Peak summit ridge. The climb to Island Peak summit is somewhat difficult due to steep climbing. On top, while Mount Everest is a mere 10 kms away to the north, the view will be blocked by the massive wall of Lhotse, towering 2,300 m above the summit of Island Peak. After enjoying the summit views we will descend all the way to our base camp
