Swiss expedition group of eight members had made first successful ascend on this Dhaulagiri mountain in 1960. Before this,  it had already tried to get to summit  by four other expedition groups, which was not successful. An expedition group from Japan had made successful summit on this mountain in 1970.  American group was also there at the top in 1973  from likewise there was another group to the top  from Italy in the year 1976.

 

The Dhaulagiri Himal lies West of the Nepal and the culminating high point at its eastern end is Dhaulagiri l.  The seventh highest mountain in the world. Dhaulagiri towers in solitary splendor. This magnificent peak rises as a giant shoulder of shining ice and snow. It gets its name from the Sanskrit word "Dhavala" which means 'white' and 'giri' which means mountain. Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) is the seventh highest peak in the world that stands above the Kaligandaki valley in the central west Nepal. Besides Dhaulagiri massive, the expedition offers a breathtaking view of Annapurnas, Nilgiri, Machhapuchre (Mt. Fish Tail), Manaslu and many other beautiful mountain peaks.  The trekking route to Dhaulagiri base camp follows French Col (5334m) and Dhampus Pass (5250m) with an exceptional view of the Kaligandaki gorges that encircles the Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m).
