Mahashivaratri, a Hindu festival dedicated to lord Shiva, is being celebrated across the country on Monday by observing fast and performing pooja in honor of the destroyer. The festival marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the Tandav- the dance of creation, preservation and destruction and his marriage to goddess Parvati.
Pashupati Area Development Trust said all necessary preparations are made to welcome devotees in the holy site of Pashupatinath Temple, from all over the country and abroad.Maha Shivaratri, one of the greatest festivals of Hindus, is being observed across the country by worshipping lord Shiva on Monday.Tens of thousands of devotees are thronging Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu to worship lord Shiva. Devotees and sages from India and other countries have also come to Pashupatinath for the worship.The movement of saints and Hindu devotees has increased in the sacred religious site as the day of Shivaratri (special worship to Lord Shiva) this year falls on Monday. Traffic around Pashupati area remains obstructed due to the presence of high number of devotees in the area. Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has made arrangements for the worship of Pashupati. Around 8,000 sages, saints and naked babas have so far arrived at the Pashupati area from various parts of the country and different Indian provinces, according to the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT). Lodging and food accommodation has been arranged for the saints and sages arriving from various place with the assistance of different religious trusts, guthis and various organizations.
Consequently, large number of security personnel has been deployed for security in Pashupati area. Police have also been keeping tight vigil on people selling and puffing cannabis other than sadhus and sages. PADT, together with police and District Administration Office, has banned the sale and consumption of liquor in and around the sacred site. Officials have already warned the local pubs against selling liquor. PADT has mobilised 10,000 volunteers to guide the devotees.
Ambulances have been put on alert to take the devotees to hospital in case of emergency. Health volunteers and paramedics affiliated to various organisations have set up tents to provide services.
