Phurba bags Everest Marathon title again
  • News Date: 29/05/2012
  • The Sagarmatha Diwas aka Mt Everest Day is being celebrated today by mountaineers inside and outside Nepal.
May 29 commemorates the heroic accomplishment of Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary who scaled the highest peak on May 29, 1953 for the first time.
Meanwhile, Phurba Tamang, the 24-year-old loader at Lukla won this year's Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon for a third time.
What appears as the real tribute to the Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, it took only three hours, 41 minutes, 31 seconds for Tamang to complete the footrace from the Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar.
Everest Base Camp is at 5,365 meters while Namche Bazaar is located at 3,446 meters from the sea level.
